3 ДЕЙСТВИТЕЛЬНО ЖУТКИХ САЙТА sentimentalcorp, mouchette transcript

english translation of title: 3 REALLY CREEPY SITES sentimentalcorp, mouchette

The video of TheViktoryShow contains browser recordings of three websites, sounds, notes on videos. We can also observe the user’s face and her reactions while showcasing the sites.

It starts with the user giving an introduction on what this video is about, in Russian. She is saying that she made this video in order to showcase some strange websites and that she will guide us through some magical and scary sites.
We see the user in her own setting, the desk and her room I guess, she also shows us an orange puppet.

First she shows the website http://sentimentalcorp.org and then goes to mouchette.org around 05.40 minute.

The navigation starts from the homepage of mouchette (http://mouchette.org), and the user’s face is shown on the top right of the screen.
The sound is not coming from mouchette in the beginning but as soon as she clicks on the Fly, we hear the fly sound of mouchette. She does not visit the fly from the dropdown menu of the homepage but by clicking on the fly image in the center of the homepage (http://mouchette.org/nom/fly.html), therefore navigating through a hidden link to the dead fly (http://mouchette.org/fly/index.html).

Apparently she does not or cannot kill the fly (click on the moving button) so she goes back to the homepage while the camera zooms in her puzzled face.
Now the camera zooms in the identity list of mouchette and the user seems to be reading some of the characteristics f.e. I hear something about Amsterdam. (I live in Amsterdam). She also reads in french! (Le site existe aussi en Francais). Then she clicks on the last button of the list (My next mood is….reload) and she loads another mood-homepage while reacting on the sounds that comes up!

Her next step is to hover over Mouchette’s profile picture on the top left and to explore the text in the bubble that pops up. I guess she automatically translates and reads this in Russian. The sound of this part is not from mouchette. Now the user clicks on the arrows- hyperlink in the end of the bubble text, and this brings her to the Suicide Kit -user responses- archive (http://www.mouchette.org/suicide/answers.php?id=27450).
She zooms in the top of the page, and we can see that see has added text on the video, namely the translation of the question from mouchette
¨What is the best way to kill yourself when you are under 13?¨.
Now she goes back to the homepage and the identity list and clicks on the ‘May I invite you?’ option.
This brings her to: ‘To you only’ (http://mouchette.org/to/you/only/private.html).
She fills the form of the name with ВИКТОРИЯ (which is Victoria in russian) but we don’t see if she goes further to send the request to mouchette for a private encounter.
(we could check this in the To You Only interface, I guess). I think she said No!
Here we rapidly see an image with her reaction: the user’s face, a candle and the russian sentence я НЕ ХОЧУ УМИРАУ which means ‘I don’t want to die’.

Next, she visits back the homepage and clicks on Amsterdam. (http://mouchette.org/home/chezmoi.html) and then from the homepage she selects to see the french version (http://mouchette.org/indexf.html).Again a nice reaction by the user, an image which shows her, Eiffel tower, a beret on her head and a french baguette. Her next step is that she clicks from the identity list the option ‘I am an artist’, which brings her to the page of ‘Nom’, (http://mouchette.org/nom/eye.html) and there she clicks
on the eye bottom right which loads another homepage (http://mouchette.org/index.html). From the identity list in the homepage she selects My name is Mouchette, which
brings her to Mouchette.net (http://mouchette.net/) but from there she rapidly goes back to the homepage. From the dropdown menu she picks M.org.ue, (http://mouchette.org/m.org.ue/index.html) where she hears the sounds and watches the moving images.
She now goes back to homepage where she chooses from the dropdown to visit ‘Lullaby for a dead fly’ (http://mouchette.org/fly/flies.html).
Οn the screen we see translation of the main question of the work, namely “Lullaby for a dead fly or how shall I be reading this since i am dead?” into russian.
The sound is the original Lullaby sound. She reads (automatically translating at the same time) one response from a user.
Next she quickly goes to Paintings (http://mouchette.org/paint/index.html) and then back to the homepage from where she picks to visit the Fan club (http://mouchette.org/fan/fanpage.html).
She reacts a little on the information of the age of mouchette and then goes back to the homepage, and from there to the ‘Wattlechick’ page (http://mouchette.org/nom/wattle.html) where she navigates a bit on the textual information which she translates again into Russian. Then she clicks on the word ‘wattlechick’ and hears the poem! The window with her face becomes slowly larger, showing her reaction on what she hears!

Then she is done with mouchette.org and shows another website until the end of the video.

Additional comments by Nikos:I find interesting that we see many things from the users private space, her room, for example clocks, frames with photographs etc,
and that we do see her face on the video so we come to see her reactions- feelings. Additionally, she makes textual comments on the video and, more importantly to mouchette.org, translates parts of the website into russian and she focuses her navigation on hidden links and the identity list, not the dropdown which is important as it shows she goes more for alternative ways to find things in there. I also find good that she visits a lot of works in mouchette.org.

In the title of the video the 3rd site showcased is missing, its http://nightmare.mit.edu/.

Additional comments by Martine: She is so much of a contemporary Mouchette to me: in her teens, quite assertive, cute and opinionated. She reads french and her pronunciation is correct.
She’s showing herself off in a juvenile way, a discreetly sexy-girly way, she has some make-up (eyeliner) long nails and light mauve nail polish, her sweater get off, baring her left shoulder. Her girly mimics are quite affected, she giggles and pretends to be shy or creeped out, she is very self-aware in front of the screen and enjoys being seen. She speaks incredibly fast and browses very fast too (or did she edit the video to speed up the browsing?). The French add-on insert at 7:33 (beret-baguette-eiffel tower and her ‘bonjour’) is just a glimpse, less than a second. She can translate from english to russian quite accurately on the instant (as it seems from the transcripts).

A really clever girl this lovely Victoria!

Trash Review
by Blast 04:34

translation of the title: [?] ON THE SITE MOUCHETTE.ORG/TRASH- REVIEW OF THE SITE MOUCHETTE.ORG, (#netstalking, #trash-review)

description⤏ The video of _Blast_ contains shots with someone performing and presented in a dark atmosphere, music, voice narration, and browser recordings of mouchette.org.

The video starts with a long shot of someone who sitting on a chair in a room, in front of a window with closed curtains and some light from the back. The person wears a hood and a mask which stays in the dark. Soon we see the 3D animated logo of his youtube channel ‘BLAST’, with the music that goes with it.

Then the person starts talking in russian which I don’t understand, and the automatic translation of the transcript did not help much in this case, I guess that he talks about presenting a website in this video, reviewing it, and offering some tips about it.

The intro lasts until 01:35 and then the video goes to mouchette.org. with a fast montage of different pages while continues talking, about what we see, while the music goes on. There are no sounds from mouchette website at all.

In very short and fast rhythm we see screen recordings with important elements out of the frame. We miss the browser context. We don’t see the browser buttons and arrows, the url etc. We also miss significant parts of the website, for example the profile pic of Mouchette, the identity list, the whole page is being zoomed in and cropped.

First of all we see the ‘Dead Fly’ (http://mouchette.org/fly/index.html), then we see ‘Flesh&Blood’, with the text translated in russian inside the web page, (http://mouchette.org/flesh/tong.html), the homepage and the dropdown menu where the user has picked the ‘Suicide Kit’ and goes to that page (http://mouchette.org/suicide/xmas.html) which appears in english and immediately is translated in the browser into russian, and he continues to the following pages of ‘Suicide Kit’ (http://mouchette.org/suicide/suikit.html) again into russian. 01:47

Then we see again the person in the room talking, until 01:55 and then we see mouchette website again. First the ‘Tell Me!’ pop up page (http://mouchette.org/fly/tellme.html) belonging to the ‘Dead Fly’ (reversing the process, as this one comes late when you visit that work), then green text page of the Dead fly (http://mouchette.org/fly/dead.html?) which normally leads to the pop up page, but here the order is reversed), and then the ‘Lullaby’ also translated into russian (http://mouchette.org/fly/flies.html) and then back to the ‘Dead Fly’ (http://mouchette.org/fly/index.html). Now back to the homepage, the user selects from the dropdown menu the ‘Lullaby’ again and visits the page. We see also some user responses in the ‘Lullaby’ that are rendered in the work as scrolling text, sideways and upwards; All this browsing is montaged in a super fast tempo, we’re now at 02:11.

Back to the homepage, the user picks from the dropdown menu the ‘Cat’ and goes to the page (http://mouchette.org/cat/index.html), kills the cat (manages to hit the moving button) and goes to the next page with the question, ‘Why did you kill my cat?’ (http://mouchette.org/cat/kill.html?) and in this page the user hits the button ‘Promise me’. This brings him to http://www.mouchette.org/cat/why.html, which contains the user responses to the cat, on the question posed before. And we go directly to the page of answers of ‘Suicide Kit’ (not the cat!) (http://mouchette.org/suicide/answers.php) which is auto translated into russian where the user scrolls down. 02:31

Now we see the person in the room again and after some time we see the homepage of mouchette with a russian text on top of it, made by the user. He seems to say something like: “Look what i found!”

Then a white flashy frame comes before showing Mouchette.net (http://www.mouchette.net/), then the homepage again, and then the user must have hit on the option ‘Members’, in the homepage of mouchette.net, which contains a random link function and this brings the user to the page (http://mouchette.org/page.php?name=master-of-nets), where we see fast also the pages http://mouchette.org/pages/master-of-nets/, http://mouchette.org/pages/master-of-nets/where.html, http://mouchette.org/pages/master-of-nets/frameset.html where the user clicks really fast on the image which is located in the i-frame in the center of the page.

Then we go back to the homepage, to the suicide answers page as before, and from the homepage again through the dropdown menu the user picks m.org.ue (http://mouchette.org/m.org.ue/index.html), to ‘Overlatig’ (http://www.mouchette.org/secret/overlatig.html), to ‘7 songs’ (http://www.mouchette.org/music/index.html) where the ‘listen’ link is translated in the browser into russian. Then we see the pages of ‘Dead Fly’ as above, but in correct order, the ‘Cat’, ‘Flesh&blood’, ‘Suicide Kit’, ‘Birthday’ (http://www.mouchette.org/birthday/index.html), ‘Trademark’ (http://drivedrive.com/mouchette/trademarking.html) and ‘Film Quiz’ (http://www.mouchette.org/film/quiz.html) translated into russian, ‘Secret’ (http://www.mouchette.org/secret/secret.html), ‘I Love Mouchette’ (http://ilovemouchette.virtualperson.org/), ‘Striped Penis’ (http://www.mouchette.org/touch/plush.html), all this in a very fast tempo with dramatic piano music.

The video ends with the outro of the person in the room.

The auto translation helped me understand that it says that the viewers must be in suprise after seeing all this!

Additional comments by Nikos:
It’s nice that presentation with the mask. reminds of identity theories etc… and very interesting when connected to mouchette! I love the end in the fast forward mode. This one shows the site in a different manner. Fast, like short glimpses, not much interactivity presented, he visits pages for a second and makes a video record that works like a short gif. The description of this video in Youtube, translated in english: “Hello everyone, in this video I will tell you about such a site called Mouchette.org and I will review it. And I will show all the […] of this site.” In the comment section under the video, the user thanks a friend for showing him the website. This video also, shows part of the website that I did not see in the other videos.

Additional comments by Martine:
There’s a very elaborate staging of this user _Blast_. The main point of this video is his performance. The anonymous black silhouette against the light, the purple and red curtain behind him, the hood and the black shiny mask with just two little dots of light glistening, it all feels so threatening! Only the hands are human, they move underneath, they talk, with some typing movements sometimes. Possibly this shot of _Blast_ talking is also edited because the same hand movements seem to be occurring exactly in the same way, sometimes I notice a jump cut. On top of the voice, there is the sound of the beat box that dramatises the speech.

Here is an extract of the translated transcripts:

01:32 a lot of juice hyperlink and so on… but many of them really shock you and even those who are not faint of heart are better off not see and because they are real shakira (?)… I’ll tell you now what’s going on there

But then, when he shows the website of Mouchette in very short and fast clippings, and he tells how scary and shocking it is…. It feels like a sort of propaganda, the tactics of enunciation are the real message: whatever information is being brought in, if shown really fast, will be taken in uncritically, because you don’t give time for personal judgement. The website browsing sequence is accompanied with piano music, rather serious chords, with an ominous atmosphere and a sense of suspense and drama.

The montage is based on the text with the beat, the black hooded person is not really speaking in front of us but this picture is a montage also. And the images of the website do not follow a real browsing session but are thrown in to keep the rhythm and to compose a good sequence with the dramatic piano music. The whole video is really fast (04:36 in total), you get bombarded. It’s really manipulative with a real display of editing skills, uncommon among the youtube video makers. It’s all in the atmosphere. I felt scared sometimes.

Among the homepage pictures (the ones made through the Mouchette.net) he falls upon the chinese man (http://mouchette.org/page.php?name=master-of-nets) and this is one I made myself as I was returning from my first trip to China. The name “Master of Nets” refers to one of the traditional gardens in Suzhou. The chinese gardens of Suzhou made a huge impression, to the point of tears sometimes…

I never met this old chinese man with a fan in his hand, but I found him in my photos of the gardens, as if I’d been following him of he’d been following me. It always brings a fond memory, and I’m glad I managed to insert that my memory gem inside Mouchette and to see it come alive again in a strange way. The frameset bears a sentence “I will kill everyone visible in the picture”, and the title of the page is “I kill and so do you!”, is a strange murderous hidden message, and I have no memory of what motivated it…

Horrors of Mouchette
by Sargnir

description⤏ This video of youtube user Sargnir contains moving images from browser recordings of mouchette.org [how?software?], plus other footage-shots, and sound narration by a male voice. It presents mouchette.org as a strange website attaching on it horror and mystery elements. There is an intro with dark phantasy elements and computer errors, the logo of the user, and then the video goes to Mouchette.org. It shows navigation in mouchette.org from a desktop (I guess) browser [which one?].
The user starts from the homepage (http://mouchette.org), zooms in parts of it, then uses the dropdown menu of the homepage to go to M.org.ue (m.org.ue/index.html), then visits Wattlechick (http://mouchette.org/nom/wattle.html), and then there are some non mouchette shots with fingers typing and a lamp in a dark room, the user visits Fly (http://mouchette.org/nom/fly.html, http://mouchette.org/fly/index.html , http://mouchette.org/fly/dead.html? and http://mouchette.org/fly/tellme.html).
Then the user watches the Lullaby for a dead fly (http://mouchette.org/fly/flies.html) and goes back to the homepage.
From the dropdown the user picks The Cat, visits the page and kills the cat (http://mouchette.org/cat/index.html and http://mouchette.org/cat/kill.html?).
The last part of the video doesnt show mouchette.org but shots with hands, lights, words, clocks and a weird building.

additional comments by Nikos:
1.The user has created a mouchette.org logo for the intro of the mouchette part (kept here as screenshot entitled “Ужасы сайта mouchette snapshot.jpeg”.
2.There was an interesting comment reaction (kept here as screenshot with the title “Ужасы сайта mouchette comment from another user.jpeg” which I translated from russian. It comes from the youtube user Oksana Bragina and conveys more or less that mouchette.org is strange because it is an artwork, explains what mouchette means, gives the reference of the Bresson movie, and shows the opinion of the user for the Suicide kit of mouchette as the worse part of the website.

user comments

3. Sargnir recorded also some sounds from mouchette with own voice-media, such as “Why did you kill my cat”.

additional comments by Martine (reading the translated transcripts):……..
First: 40 seconds of comments and music to set the stage with old-fashioned screen with code, skull and bones and alarm sounds. The text mentions “pregnant children and other persons with unstable psyche…” all this before arriving to a flowery mouchette’s homepage.
There are two different voice effects.
The voice reading the text on the page (mouchette’s voice?) is low, grave and very serious, with added echo and double voice sound, with a scary effect the voice of a ghost maybe… The image is zoomed into the text on the homepage and gives a translation, making something innocent seem very ominous.
The voice of Sargnir has less sound effects, feels more natural but has a tone of warning. The sound of the pages of the website is never playing, although the voice seems to comment the sounds in the website (like the work ‘7 songs’).
Why are there other pictures than the website (like typing hands, or a mask or trees…)? Is it to make a mystery of what you don’t see?
The comments mentions the mail that someone receives sometime later when they click on the fly and leave their email.
Here I give an example of this mail:

“Dear Альбина Фе

When on the 22 Apr 2021 at 5:55, you clicked on me causing my death, the last words I read were yours, dear Альбина Фе, and I will never forget them.
Every night before sleeping, I hear them again, they became part of my ‘lullaby’ http://www.mouchette.org/fly/flies.html
They are also stored in my database, forever. http://www.mouchette.org/fly/how.html
(If you don’t remember your answer, the search engine at the bottom of the page can find it for you, if you type Albina-s0303@mail.ru as a keyword)
So now, dear Альбина Фе, although I hear you every night, there is still a place for you to write me from the world you are in (dead or alive, who cares? …) and killing me will be like a greeting http://www.mouchette.org/fly/

Mouchette http://mouchette.org

In the voice of the commentator this email feels like the message of a ghost from beyond the grave.
The pictures are not from mouchette but from one of the works of YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES, another group of early net.art, recognisable by the typical ‘O with a / inside’ instead of ‘O’ https://www.yhchang.com/
The end of the story seems to be a personal record of things that happened, a sort of diabolic legend made up by the commentator, with pictures unrelated to the website with a request to give comments under the youtube video. end of Martine’s comments

Damn Site Boy
by Виктория Герда (Victoria Gerda)

Проклятый сайт mouchette.org Damn site mouchette.org

Description⤏ The video of Виктория Герда (Victoria Gerda) made by a very young boy contains browser recordings from a mobile phone, voice and face sequences and many parts with this kid reacting and commenting. It presents mouchette as a weird site.

Found and archived by Nikos Voyiatzis

It starts with a short intro, which is also hosted in the TikTok channel of the user, provided below in metadata. It actually is a reenactment from this scene (https://youtu.be/Yw0DXswF5MI?t=79) in the movie Lion King, russian version, it’s a common practise in the TikTok platform: people perform on given voice recordings from movies etc.
Then we see a really young boy, I guess younger than 10 years old, talking softly things I do not understand, in russian language.
I guess he introduces the video and I hear that he refers to a site that is mouchette.org. We see the boy in his own space.
Then the video goes to the browser recording, we see the desktop of the phone. The boy goes to Yandex.ru search engine and first changes his keyboard language from russian to english, then mistypes mouchette.org in the search bar and he gets an error message: ‘there is no page like that’.
He shuts that browser and opens a new one in Safari, with Yandex search engine again, he tries to find the site in his browser history-open tabs, but no, he cannot. He mistypes the url again, and receives another error. Now he goes back to the first browser he used, mistypes again, yet another error!
This continues for some more time and then the camera moves back to the boy which seems to say that he cannot find the site, or something like that.
In his following search he types correctly and he is now on the homepage (mouchette.org). The sound is not on so we cannot hear the sounds of the work.'br"' From the dropdown menu he picks ‘M.org.ue’ (http://mouchette.org/m.org.ue/index.html) and then to ‘7 songs’ (http://mouchette.org/music/index.html), the ‘dead fly’ (http://mouchette.org/fly/index.html) but does not interact further, then the ‘Lullaby’ (http://mouchette.org/fly/flies.html). Next he zooms in and out the homepage and selects the ‘Cat’ (http://mouchette.org/cat/index.html), zooms in the moving tab and kills the cat! He is transferred to the next page with the question ‘Why did you kill my cat?’ (http://mouchette.org/cat/kill.html?), he zooms in the form and goes back to the homepage.
He moves to ‘Flesh and Blood’ (http://mouchette.org/flesh/tong.html), zooms on the tongue, and then moves to the ‘suicide kit’ (http://mouchette.org/suicide/xmas.html).
He does not go further there, from the homepage again he moves to ‘Birthday’ (http://mouchette.org/birthday/index.html) and zooms in and out.
We now see again the boy, talking for a couple of minutes.
The rest of the video is a repetition of the above part where he visits each page in mouchette.org as before (we see the time going back again on the phone!).

Additional comments by Nikos: This is the one and only video of this user in youtube. I found also really nice, that the TikTok video is used in the intro.

Additional comments by Martine: it feels a bit voyeuristic to see this very young boy play with his Iphone and records himself on tiktok, he’s so cute…
Why on earth does he want to record his browsing of mouchette.org?
He wants it so much that he has to try it at least 3 times with the wrong spelling ‘mouvchet.org’… What is there for him to like?
How did mouchette.org enter popular culture for young russian kids?
Does he enjoy what he’s seeing on mouchette’s website or is he complying with some sort of ritual suggested by his online peer group?
Is it supposedly scary or creepy?
I enjoy the zooming of mouchette.org pages, they look good, and, unexpectedly, all different in sizes. There is a dropdown menu configuration on that phone which is quite interesting and makes it easy to browse one by one.
The same browsing sequence is being played twice, from 3:26 to 6:07 and from 7:14 to the end 9:53.
It shows that our boy is mostly testing his phone apps.
I’m also testing the VIMEO functions and extracted these 2 gifs below, from the video.
Translation of the spoken texts by Artyom Kocharyan: Hi everyone every one, today we go on adventure in safari.. we will go to the website dedicated to a girl named mouchette……………………………………… unfortunately we didn’t manage to get to the site … but it’s strange because at first it’s working but later, not. Let’s try one more time……………………… so guys, we entered the site mouchette.org. if you don’t know what is this site, check it on the internet. You saw how i typed mouchette.org. and there will be a continuation. We will watch others (sites) and we will experience scary legends. Bye everyone, subscribe and press the bell for notification. Bye everyone!
